Swapping out your old mattress this Memorial Day? Willis Dady Homeless Services hopes you’ll recycle it instead of throwing it away.
The nonprofit’s mattress recycling program turns tossed beds into job opportunities for those leaving homelessness while also keeping waste out of the landfill.
“For $10, we’ll break it down to the raw materials, sell those to manufacturers, and use the proceeds to fund steady jobs,” said Employment Services Director David Karpick. “It’s about stable income, affordable housing and helping the environment.”
Mattress drop-off is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Willis Dady Works, 800 1st Ave NW.
Fees:
- $10 per mattress (Linn County residents)
- $20 per box spring (Linn County residents)
- $35 per mattress (nonresidents)
-
Free
for metal bed frames
The group asks that all mattresses be clean. Payment is accepted by cash, card or check.
