Syracuse, N.Y. — On Saturday evening, firefighters managed to contain a blaze within a multifamily dwelling, preventing it from extending to neighboring units and avoiding further displacement of residents.
The firefighters were sent to 342 Park Street around 5:29 PM following a frantic call from a neighbor stating that the house was burning down, as reported by Captain Phillip Vogt, who serves as the spokesperson for the Syracuse Fire Department.
Upon their arrival, the firefighters observed fire and smoke emanating from the ground-level flat within the four-unit residential building, as he stated.
Vogt mentioned that firefighters examined the house but found out that everybody had exited safely on their own prior to the arrival of the fire department.
According to a news statement released by fire authorities, the blaze originated due to combustible smoking materials within a ground-level chamber utilized as a sleeping area. Fortunately, nobody was harmed.
The two individuals residing in the ground-floor apartment have been forced out, he mentioned. However, the rest of the occupants who reside in the same building will be permitted to come back inside.
The American Red Cross was providing aid.
