Transform Your Plastic Plant Hangers Into Luxurious Decor with This Easy DIY

As spring fills the air and summer approaches, you’ve probably spotted several suspended plant displays during visits to your nearby garden center. Although these plants may be attractive, their plastic containers frequently appear unsightly once they’re brought indoors. What’s the solution then? Should you take off the hooks and place the pots directly on the floor? Buy replacement vessels instead? Perhaps avoid such plants entirely? Alternatively, try out this simple project which transforms inexpensive plastic plant holders into stylish decor pieces. By wrapping them with macramé thread, you can turn an ordinary plastic planter into a chic decorative item.

Begin the project by buying some 3-millimeter macramé cord. These cords are commonly available at neighborhood crafts stores or through online retailers. They come in numerous color options, so consider which would complement your space and coordinate with your current plant pots. Keep in mind that this piece should remain indoor-only since macramé isn’t water-resistant; moisture could cause mildew issues. Additionally, ensure you have a hot glue gun handy for assembly. Investing in one might be worthwhile particularly if crafting is something you frequently enjoy. With such a tool at hand, you’ll open up possibilities to explore more projects like this.

Redesign Plastic Plant Hangers Using Macrame Cord

Transforming your planter into an attractive piece can be quite straightforward with the right materials. Begin by attaching one end of your macrame string to the inward-turning hook’s edge using adhesive. Carefully wind the cord around the plastic hook until it is entirely concealed, then apply glue at the bottom to fasten it securely.

Measure out a section of cord that is nine times longer than a single plastic rod. Once measured, fold the cord exactly in half ensuring equal lengths on either side, then thread the folded middle part beneath the plastic rod. After threading, guide the two loose ends of the cord above the plastic rod and into the loop formed at the top. This forms your starting knot.
To continue with the design, take the strand on the left and form it into an ‘L’ shape across the vertical plastic cord. Subsequently, position the strand on the right directly over the ‘L’ shaped strand forming what looks like the numeral four. Pass the lower end of the right strand below the plastic rod and draw it up through the opening within the figure-four formation. Tighten the structure by pulling all strands tautly together.
Repeat these steps continuously throughout the process until reaching the desired ending point; finish off by applying hot glue to hold everything securely in place.

Once you finish this design on every plastic rod, your project will be completed. But if you find yourself with additional macramé cord, enhance the overall appearance by winding the macramé around the planter using the same method applied for the hooks. For an added touch of flair, experiment with various hues. Interested in replicating this style? Give it a shot!
