Man Faces Legal Heat After Creating Unauthorized Waffle House Disaster Map

Once your nearby Waffle House shuts down, it’s time to leave. This renowned restaurant chain typically remains operational under most weather circumstances. However, during forecasts of extreme events, even these stalwart eateries will temporarily close until the threat subsides.

It would be fantastic if there were a map showing Waffle House closings nationwide, right? Although the company likes to keep such details under wraps, computer scientist Jack LaFond decided to tackle this issue himself. He developed a system that extracts data from the Waffle House site to offer this crucial information.

When LaFond posted his website on Twitter, it gained immediate popularity—everyone loved it except for the executives at Waffle House. They quickly issued him a cease and desist order, alleging copyright violation. Although LaFond politely reached out to them and received a courteous response from their side, they demanded that he remove the site. He did so with grace.
Check out his complete story about getting the cease and desist letter on his webpage.
