find themselves in this precise predicament and are really eager to use their air conditioner!
Let’s find out why the neighbors continue to complain.
Am I the asshole for having my air conditioner running and upsetting my neighbor?
I reside in a rented townhouse located within a large structure divided into four residences.
We live in the second unit from the left from the outside.
We have one neighbor to the left who owns their unit, with the other unit beside us being vacant currently.
We relocated here during the previous summer and everything was smooth until October when our air conditioning system began acting up. Our property manager promptly replaced it at no cost to us.
The neighbor was displeased with their newly installed air conditioning unit.
Once we got this component set up, our neighbor began voicing complaints to us about how extremely noisy it was and causing his entire home to shake.
Initially, I felt uneasy because I aimed to be thoughtful and thus arranged for an AC technician to stop by and assess the situation.
To keep things comfortable, we continued using our air conditioner throughout the winter since our bedroom, located on the top floor beneath the rooftop deck where the AC unit is situated, tends to become quite stifling with poor airflow in the space.
The technician examined all components.
After consulting with our property manager, we brought in a technician who informed us that the unit was operating correctly and the compressor was merely running extra cycles due to the colder weather conditions.
The technician noted that the property manager chose not to go with the highest-end unit available, which might be the reason for what’s occurring; however, I find that quite understandable.
He likewise verified our requirement for air conditioning, mentioning that our room had become a stagnant spot with poor airflow.
We additionally requested the technician to enter our neighbor’s home since they had invited him, and he verified that the sounds they heard matched those we were experiencing. I observed that their residence was not actually shaking as they claimed.
Even the tech made a joke about it.
To be honest, there is a slight humming noise, though not particularly bothersome. Even the technician playfully suggested, “Should we just ask our neighbors to buzz off?”
Our neighbors requested that we avoid using the air conditioner because it was still chilly outside, and I consented to give it a shot.
Thus, we proceeded and everything turned out okay, not spectacular but certainly under control.
The neighbors continue to complain.
As spring arrived and we began using the air conditioning, they voiced complaints once more, requesting that we contact a technician to install features aimed at reducing the disruption.
So we did.
The technician visited us at least four times within two weeks to install robust padding beneath the air conditioning unit, fit a compressor blanket, and add rubber washers and fasteners in every feasible location.
Currently, they’re still voicing complaints, stating that they can’t get proper rest at night due to our air conditioning unit and such.
They believe they ought to have access to their air conditioning.
It seems like we’ve exhausted all our efforts to improve the situation, yet what we do never measures up to their expectations.
I firmly think that we have every right to utilize the air conditioner moderately, and I am definitely unwilling to compromise both mine and my partner’s comfort entirely by avoiding AC usage altogether.
Lacking inspiration aside from urging the property manager to buy a new AC unit solely for the benefit of the neighbors, an idea I comprehend might not be well-received, I have run dry of options.
It’s unfortunate how bothersome the neighbors find the air conditioner.
Let’s take a look at how Reddit responded to this story.
The neighbors have to discuss with the landlord.
Perhaps the neighbors have already attempted to speak with the landlord.
They’ve already gone far enough to try satisfying their neighbors.
The issue could potentially have nothing to do with the air conditioning unit whatsoever.
They completely deserve to utilize their air conditioner.
Who could make it through summer without it?
