EPD Joins Summer Reading Series: Dive into the Season’s Best Reads!

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) — The Evansville Police Department has joined forces with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation for their second annual Summer Reading Program.

Taylor Merriss, who works as the EPD Special Projects Coordinator, plans to visit various EVPL branch locations and Barnes & Noble stores over the summer months to conduct reading sessions for local children.

Meriss states that initiatives such as these play a crucial role in enhancing literacy rates locally and fostering community connections.

When we combine these efforts, it might improve literacy rates in the future and foster friendships and involvement as well,” she explains. “Although I wasn’t familiar with Ryder last year, things have changed. Since then, he has attended events like Coffee with a Cop and National Night Out. He even joined me at several other locations. Being able to engage in this way and build relationships—that’s my motivation.
