NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Despite ongoing construction nearby, Cody Pool has opened for the season.
The familiar pool will now reopen. Starting from June 6th, the 50-meter pool will be available for adults who wish to swim laps and also accessible to everyone else,” stated Bob Barr, Superintendent of North Platte Parks and Recreation. “However, please keep in mind that this pool sits close to an active construction area. Consequently, parking could be restricted, you may encounter additional noise and dust, but overall, the facility remains operational.
The construction at Cody Pool aligns with a ballot measure in November 2022 when an additional half-penny sales tax inside the city was passed. This tax increase aimed, among other things, to help fund upgrades for the historic pool that dates back over a hundred years.
“I’m looking forward to next year when everything should be completed. The expansion of the bathhouse will be finished, the lazy river will be operational, and all the water slides will be open for business. It seems like everyone is really enthusiastic about these additions. Additionally, I trust that guests remain thrilled to enjoy the swimming pool throughout this coming summer,” Barr mentioned.
Upon completion, the renovations at Cody Pool will include features that are not found within several hundred miles.
“Our lazy river will include special elements you won’t find everywhere else. A key feature will be the Baja Deck with submerged seating where guests can cool off without leaving their seats. Additionally, parts of the lazy river will offer shaded areas for those seeking relief from direct sunlight. Right next to our setup, there’ll be a zero-depth entrance complete with interactive play structures designed specifically for young children. Unlike traditional setups which often come with separate baby pools, ours integrates these playful additions directly within the shallow-entry area. This innovative approach has generated quite a buzz among visitors,” explained Barr.
